what we do - current projects
Eat the Change
Eat The Change began in 2008 when we ran a pilot project challenging our local community to eat only local organic food free from plastic packaging for a week. Hundreds of people took up this challenge, and it highlighted the gap between people’s appetite for local, organic, plastic free food and its availability in our community. Based on the success of this project, we are currently carrying out research into food shopping values and motivations and working with local traders and producers to explore how we can make sustainable food more available locally.
If you live in Bristol and would like to get involved in this exciting project, then you can help us in one or both of the following ways:
Fill in the survey online: It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, just click on the link below:
Survey your neighbours: Would you be able to spare an evening or two to survey your street? This would really help us and would be an opportunity for you to meet your neighbours and talk about food - who knows, it could even lead to a few new food co-ops springing up around Bristol! Alternative Supermarket
This is an exciting new project to bring ownership of our food supply back to the community. This will be a community owned and run supermarket, where members pay a small monthly membership fee and volunteer a few hours of work a month, in exchange for a 10% discount in the shop. The savings this affords will allow the alternative supermarket to compete with the vast economies of scale enjoyed by supermarket giants such as Tesco and Asda. The members will decide what is stocked and how the supermarket is run, thus taking control of where their food comes from and being able to support our local growers and producers.
We are currently in the process of securing a suitable premises for the shop and drafting a business plan.
